Wolverton, Jr. as a young boy wearing shorts and standing by a stuffed toy. Irving was the son of Irving Keller Wolverton (1912-1987) and his first wife, Maxine Althea Coffman (1914-1969). His parents’ marriage lasted about four years. After they divorced, his mother married Carl Walter Laudermilk (1911-1985) in Woodstock in 1936. He was a 24-year old weaver born in Botetourt County and living in Edinburg. Soon after, the new family moved to Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, where Irving grew up. Irving K. Wolverton, Jr. appears in several U.S. Marine muster rolls between 1950 and 1958, first as a Corporal, then as a Sergeant. He was stationed at many places including Parris Island, S.C., Quantico, Virginia, Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia, Camp Pendleton, California, and later, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. His brief death notice published in the Plain Dealer (Cleveland) on 9 December 1976 mentioned he had four children: Robert, William, Nancy and Cynthia. He married in his mid-forties (probably for the second time) to Dolores Jean (Covey) Locke (1934-1988). She had divorced her first husband the year before, in 1975. Unfortunately, he and Delores were married less than a year when Irving died unexpectedly in Ohio. Rosalie was the daughter of Oscar Lee and Maude Odeal (Golladay) Sheetz. She graduated from Woodstock High School in 1933 as valedictorian of her class and received a business certificate from Massanutten Military Academy. Rosalie worked at the U.S. Office of Strategic Services in Washington, D.C., from September 1943 to October 1945. After, she returned to Shenandoah County and settled in the Edinburg community, she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for many local businesses and offices. Her husband was Richard H. Jennings. They had a son, William R. Jennings. Rosalie was active in her community and church throughout her life. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
