George William Smith (1900-2000) was an African American citizen of the town of Woodstock who was noted for his collections, including many items rescued from the trash. He lived on Water Street and attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Woodstock. Smith is buried at the Riverview Cemetery in Woodstock. Two hundred and seventy nine of the rescued photographs that are part of this collection were taken and/or processed by Woodstock photographer Hugh Morrison. An amateur photographer, George Smith took hundreds of photographs of the town during the 1980s and early 1990s for his amusement. George William Smith (1900-2000) was an African American citizen of the town of Woodstock who was noted for his collections, including many items rescued from the trash. He lived on Water Street and attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Woodstock. Smith is buried at the Riverview Cemetery in Woodstock. Two hundred and seventy nine of the rescued photographs that are part of this collection were taken and/or processed by Woodstock photographer Hugh Morrison. An amateur photographer, George Smith took hundreds of photographs of the town during the 1980s and early 1990s for his amusement. Dated 1857. One side of the document outlines Isaac's responsibilities in maintaining the school, subjects to be taught, days worked, and his salary along with responsibilities of the subscribers. The reverse records subscribers and financial transactions. Only 1/2 page of this document survives. The Oak Grove School operated in Hamburg from sometime before 1852 to ca. 1865. The exact location of the school is unknown. Isaac Ludwig was recorded as being a teacher there beginning with this document through at least 1860. In 1869 he was a teacher at the Hamburg Seminary. He died in 1879 in Hamburg.
