(1916-2002) Description An account of the resource Profile photograph of Charles H. Glaize, from Strasburg, as a young man. Charles graduated Strasburg High School, 1935, He earned a B.A. at Emory and Henry College in 1940. Next, he received a degree in Divinity from the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Ga. He also attended the Army Chaplain School, Harvard University, and became an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church at the Virginia Annual Conference held in February 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific (Bouganville) and in the Philippines. After his service, he was appointed to Ferrum College as a professor of history and dean of men and the pastor of the Mountain View Methodist Church. He was recalled to active duty in the Army Chaplain Corps in 1948 and assigned to Fort Knox, Ky. Charles was selected as one of the first chaplains for the Air Force in 1949. He served for 24 years at various Air Force bases around the world. He received the Meritorious Service Medal upon his retirement from active duty in 1973. He then served as a supply pastor at various churches in south Alabama and northwest Florida, including 19 years at the Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, Laurel Hill, Fla. When Charles died, he left behind his wife of 53 years, Nancy Robertson Glaize. The couple raised four children: Beth (Glaize) Butler, Charles H. Glaize Jr., John W. Glaize, and Edward R. Glaize. Glaize Subject The topic of the resource Glaize, Charles H. (1916-2002) Description An account of the resource Portrait photograph of Charles H. Glaize, from Strasburg, as a young man. Charles graduated Strasburg High School, 1935, He earned a B.A. at Emory and Henry College in 1940. Next, he received a degree in Divinity from the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Ga. He also attended the Army Chaplain School, Harvard University, and became an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church at the Virginia Annual Conference held in February 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific (Bouganville) and in the Philippines. After his service, he was appointed to Ferrum College as a professor of history and dean of men and the pastor of the Mountain View Methodist Church. He was recalled to active duty in the Army Chaplain Corps in 1948 and assigned to Fort Knox, Ky. Charles was selected as one of the first chaplains for the Air Force in 1949. He served for 24 years at various Air Force bases around the world. He received the Meritorious Service Medal upon his retirement from active duty in 1973. He then served as a supply pastor at various churches in south Alabama and northwest Florida, including 19 years at the Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, Laurel Hill, Fla. When Charles died, he left behind his wife of 53 years, Nancy Robertson Glaize. The couple raised four children: Beth (Glaize) Butler, Charles H. Glaize Jr., John W. Glaize, and Edward R. Glaize. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
