Huffman and his wife, Minna Enola (Beam) Huffman. Pastor Huffman was a Lutheran minister and native of Stanley in Page County, Virginia. He served the Toms Brook Parish of the Tennessee Synod of the Lutheran Church which included St. Matthews, St. Stephens, St. Davids, and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Churches starting in 1916. Rev. Huffman died in 1918 as a result of an influenza infection and pneumonia. He had also served as the principal of the Toms Brook High School from 1917 until the time of his death. Minna Enola Beam of Cherryville NC married L.L. Huffman on November 6 1916. She and two sons, Richard Long Huffman and Harold Lee Huffman, born 1919, survived him. (Teale) French seated with her hands in her lap. She was the daughter of Gladys Adelaide (Hamill) Teale and Edward Painter Teale. She was a member of the Class of 1943 of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia and attended Harcum Junior College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. After college, she worked in a division office of AT&T Long Lines in Washington, DC, where she met her future husband Warren Ballinger French, Jr., of Shenandoah County. They married in Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1949, and spent 70 years together before she died. Pat was extremely active in her church and community. She served on the Board of the Woodstock Library and was appointed by Virginia Governors Godwin and Dalton for five-year terms on the State Library Board of the Virginia State Library, serving as chairman for one year. Pat also worked to gain support of the Shenandoah County Supervisors for the creation of the Shenandoah County Library, which opened in 1985 and led to the creation of the Shenandoah County Library System. She served two terms on that board. Pat was also involved in the founding of the Shenandoah Community Foundation in 1999. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Patricia was born in Harrisonburg, the oldest daughter of Robert Lee Tolliver and Esterlean Ralls (Butler) Tolliver. In the 1950 census, Patricia, her mother, and her sister, Jeannine, lived in Woodstock with her maternal grandparents, Lucien and Fannie (Timbers) Butler. She married Charles Junior Corley, from Stephens City, in 1960. The well-known Methodist minister, William H. Polk, officiated at the Woodstock wedding. The couple had two daughters together, Veronica Maria and Gina Yvette Corley, but the marriage did not last and the couple divorced in 1977. Title A name given to the resource Bondage Biographies: Enslaved People of Shenandoah County Description An account of the resource In 2018, the Truban Archives began compiling information to create a searchable database of enslaved people in Shenandoah County during the years 1772 to 1865. Under the direction of the archivist, several volunteers pored over various resources to compile spreadsheets of information. The data compiled included the following information (if known): names, names of enslavers, locations related to the person, birthdates, relationships, what happened to them (e.g., emancipation, willed, ran away), the records’ citations, and other notable information. The resources used to discover this information are varied, and all can be found at the Truban Archives. Volunteers examined newspaper clippings and several books, including abstracts of wills, research notebooks, births indexes, and a publication on the history of Edinburg, Virginia. Once the data of several hundred people were assembled, the spreadsheet was uploaded to the digital archives for public consumption. More people will be uploaded as the research progresses. Though much information has been found and made available to the public, unfortunately, Bondage Biographies: Enslaved People of Shenandoah County Collection will never truly be completed. This is due to lost records, including missing newspaper copies and unrecorded information. Because of this, the collection is an ongoing process, with more entries being made as new information is discovered. Their parents were Glenn Henry (1897-1959) and Mary Frances (Burner) (1898-1975) Didawick. Patsy Jean Didawick lived in Toms Brook and worked as a bookkeeper in 1958 when she married John Emory Simmons (1935-2016), a truck driver from Edinburg. His parents were Floyd Oakney and Olga Emory (Burns) Simmons. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. The couple moved to Florida in the 1970’s then to Texas. They moved back to Virginia for a time, but returned to Texas to be near their grown children – David, Rachel, Beth, and Michael -- and grandchildren. Dorothy Marilla Didawick lived most of her life in Toms Brook. She married Delford Elwood Keckley, a 21-year old farmer from Strasburg in 1941. He was the son of Earl and Wilmouth Irene (Cook) Keckley. They had a daughter, Margaret, in 1944. Sometime after that, they divorced and then, in 1963 married each other again. Their son, William Allen Keckley, was born during this time. Their second marriage lasted until 1974. Dorothy married a third time to Ashby Woodrow Edwards from Penn Laird, Rockingham County. He was ten years older than Dorothy and that union lasted from 1974-1983. She died a few years later. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. "Patsy" (Borden) Holtzclaw seated on a bench with her older brother, Maxwell F. Borden, Jr. standing beside her. They were the children of Maxwell Fredereck Sr. and Sarah Frances (Beatty) Borden. They grew up in Strasburg. In the 1930 census, they lived with their parents on E. King St. in Strasburg and their father worked in a farm supply store. In 1949, the Max and his parents moved to Richmond where their father eventually became a Regional Manager for Southern States. Patsy had already married Clyde Everett Holtzclaw, Jr. in Green Acres, Kentucky (1923-1960), the year before and was no longer living at home.
