Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. Charles grew up in Strasburg, the son of Walter T. and Annie Susie (Henshaw) Glaize. After graduating from Strasburg High School in 1935, he went to Emory and Henry College in southwestern Virginia, eventually becoming a Methodist chaplain. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific Bouganville and in the Phillipines. Released from the Army in 1946, he was appointed to Ferrum College as a professor of history and dean of men and the pastor of the Mountain View Methodist Church. He was recalled to active duty in the Army Chaplain Corps in 1948 and assigned to Fort Knox, Ky. Charles was selected as one of the first chaplains for the Air Force in 1949. He served for 24 years at various Air Force bases around the world, including England - where he participated in the 25th anniversary of the D-Day Normandy landings, June 1969. He received the Meritorious Service Medal upon his retirement from active duty in 1973. He then served as a supply pastor at variuos churches in south Alabama and northwest Florida, including 19 years at the Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, Laurel Hill, Fla. His wife was Nancy (Robertson) Glaize and together, they raised four children: Beth (Glaize) Butler, Charles H. Glaize Jr., John W. Glaize, and Edward R. Glaize. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image.
