Rudy Sr. wearing a suit and tie. Raymond was the son of Glenn William (1876-1927) and Ada Belle (Clinedinst) (1874-1904) Rudy. His father was a carpenter. Raymond was a 1920 graduate of Woodstock High School and married Beulah Lee Hockman (1905-1993) three years later. The couple had three children together: Mark Rudy, Raymond Rudy, Jr., and Barbara (Rudy) Bowman. They lived in rural Edinburg. While his children were young in the 1930s and early 1940s, Raymond worked as a car salesman at a Ford plant. When he registered for the WWII draft in 1942, he worked at the American Viscose Plant in Front Royal. By March 1946, he had been elected the Commissioner of Revenue for Shenandoah County. The Northern Virginia Daily newspaper published many tax related notices on his behalf during his term. He did not run again in the November 1951 election and soon after, began working for the State of Virginia as a tax agent. An article published on 16 November 1962 in the Northern Virginia Daily newspaper noted that Raymond Rudy (in his capacity as a tax agent of the State of Virginia) had brought charges against 31 people in Warren County for failure to pay their taxes. Raymond had older brothers and the family business was a lumber yard which he helped run in the 1930's and 1940's. Raymond married in September 1935 to Betty C. Maphis, the daughter of Fred and Anna C. (Boyer) Maphis). He worked as a bookkeeper at the time. Raymond died relatively young, of Leukemia. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
