Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. Roy Lee Richman was the 9th child born to Isaac Milton (1856-1950) and Mary Catherine (Sager) (1858-1935) Richman. When he registered for the WWI draft, he farmed for J.M. Richman, (probably a relative) in Maurertown and listed his mother as his emergency contact. He married Ruth M. (Keller) Richman in 1927 and the couple had at least two sons and two daughters together. When he registered for the WWII draft, Roy was still farming in Maurertown. At that time, he was described as 5’7” and 125 pounds. In the 1950 census, the couple lived in the Stonewall District where Roy farmed. Besides Roy and his wife, Ruth, four children (Robert, Harold, Mary and Martha) and Roy’s father, Isaac, lived with them. Both Roy and Ruth are buried in Alonzaville, west of Woodstock. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Ruby was the daughter of the late Roy Adison and Helen Virginia (O’Neal) Lichliter. She was a 1941 graduate of Edinburg High School. A year later, she married Carson Marion Lichliter and lived in Fort Valley for several years. Her husband worked at a saw mill and she worked at the Celanese Plant. The couple had three children: Cary Dean, Lana, and Zane Alan Lichliter. She and Carson divorced in 1953 and a year later, her name became Shipe. This second union did not last and in 1967, she married Clayton Jett. She retired from Avtex Fibers in November of 1989, was the recording secretary for the Avtex Retirees Club, and a member of the Jolly 60’s AARP, the Warren County Senior Center and the Riverton United Methodist Church, where she was in charge of Parliaments. The name, "Ruby Lichliter", is written on the glass plate negative of this image. She graduated from Triplett High School in 1943 and from Dunsmore Business College in 1945. In 1948, she married Douglas E. Phillips. Together, they raised four children: Alicia (Phillips) Deakins, Patricia (Phillips) Shelton, Mary Ellen Phillips, and Charles D. Phillips Over the course of her life, Ruby worked for Valley Fertilizer, for Citizen’s Bank in New Market, Farmers and Merchants Bank in Timberville, and as a bookkeeper for Howell Metal Co. from 1968-86, before retiring. She also sold Beauty Counselor cosmetics. The plaque reads in part, "Rude's Hill", with the text below it: "Stonewall Jackson's Campground - April 2-16, 1862". Additional historical information follows. The marker was erected in 1927 by the Shenandoah Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. It is one of 59 commemorating Virginia Civil War battlefields created during the 1920’s by the Battlefield Markers Association. Mother Crim has been identified and is standing in the center of the image just left of the marker. She is locally remembered for her actions following the Civil War Battle of New Market caring for wounded cadets from the Virginia Military Institute.
