Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. She worked as a nurse for a short time before her 37-year tenure with Reeves-Hoffman, a prominent electronics manufacturer that operated for many years in Carlisle. Thelma ended her career with the Cumberland County courthouse, where she worked as a jury staff. Her first marriage was to a young Army Sergeant, Maynard Angney Pardo, in August 1943. At the time, he was stationed in Jackson, North Carolina. The couple had three children together, David, Jeff, and Amy, but divorced in the early 1950's. She later married again to a man named Erickson. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Wakeman (1903-1994) Weddings - Virginia - Shenandoah County Description An account of the resource This was a wedding photograph of Tommy and Ida Barrick, taken in 1924, at her brother, Galen Wakeman's, home. The couple was from the Edinburg area. Tommy’s parents were Thomas Daniel Barrick (1871-1950) and Cora Frances (Wolverton) Barrick (1877-1930), farmers from rural Edinburg. Ida’s parents were John Ozias (1852-1926) and Sarah Elizabeth (Kline) (1867-1940) Wakeman, farmers from the Madison District of Shenandoah County. By 1940, the couple owned a farm next to Ida’s brother, Galen, and his family. It was located on State Road 691 (west of Columbia Furnace). Tommy and Ida had three children together: Frances E. (1926-2013), Grace A. (1928-2013), and Glenn E. (1929-2010). Both Tommy and Ida are buried in Wakemans Grove Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Edinburg.
