(1974) Biographical Text Shelley Rucker moved to Shenandoah County in 1974 with her husband Guy to establish the Little North Farm Contract Beef Inc. This company provided individuals the opportunity to purchase beef steers, graze them on the Little North Farm near Conicville, and then have them slaughtered and processed. This custom beef feeding plan was very popular with residents of the Washington DC area interested in sourcing their beef directly from the farm instead of buying it in a supermarket. Born in Alabama, Shelley spent much of her early life in the Philippines and other Far East countries while her father worked with the Lykes Steamship Company. She graduated from Jacksonville Teacher’s College in Jacksonville Alabama. After living in Wilmington NC and northern Virginia, she moved to Shenandoah County with her family to pursue their business dream for which Shelley served as treasurer. Outside of work, Shelley had three children Lynn, Brenda, and Cassandra. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and founding regent of Shenandoah County’s Narrow Passage Chapter, NSDAR. The accusation against stated he had raped Susannah Barrett, widow of John Barrett, on the night of July 5 1779. The court ruled that the facts of the case were not fully proved. However, Jacob was ordered to receive 39 lashes on his bare back for being off of his plantation. They also ruled that he could not be issued any pass for the next one year and one day and would receive 39 lashes each time he was found off the plantation of his enslaver. Biographical Text Lenora "Sis" Wender Myerberg was born in Woodstock Virginia on March 20 1910. In 1932 her and her brother Simon assumed ownership of "Wenders Department Store" in Woodstock and Mt. Jackson Virginia following the death of their father William. The store had operated by William and mother Minnie since 1914. As co-owner, "Sis" managed the two stores Women's Department. This required trips to New York City every 2-3 months to purchase merchandise and to stay abreast of trends. Her profession led to her being known for her immaculate appearance and fashion knowledge. A graduate of Woodstock High School, Lenora first attended Randolph-Macon Women's College and then Beaver College in Glenside PA. After graduating from Beaver College, she worked in New York City for a period of time before returning to Woodstock to work at Wenders. After Wender's closed in the early 1970s, Sis and her husband David enjoyed retirement in their family home on N. Church Street in Woodstock. There she spent time managing a legacy rose garden created by her mother, volunteering with the Woodstock Library, and managing the hospitality cart at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. She died on December 31 1997 and is buried at Beth El Congregation Cemetery in Harrisonburg Virginia.
