Photograph of Reed T. Goe, who was a cadet at Massanutten Academy from 1924-1926.
Reed was from Lewis County, West Virginia, where his father worked as a contractor in the oil and gas industry. Both his parents were born in Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of five siblings.
After graduating from Massanutten Academy in 1926, Reed went to Baltimore where he completed his degree in Dentistry at the University of Maryland. There, he met and married Ellen Irene Radabaugh, in 1930, who was, like Reed, originally from West Virginia.
Reed became a dentist and, sometime after 1935, moved to Raleigh, N.C., where the 1940 census found him working as a dental surgeon with his own practice.
He remained there 15 years before joining the U.S. Medical Corps attached to the Air Force. He held the rank of major. Shortly after joining, he and his family were stationed in Japan.
He died unexpectedly of a heart attack while on a trip to what was then Indochina. His is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He was only 48 years old.
He left behind his wife, two daughters, Sandra Jean and Mary Ellen, and a son, Reed T. Goe, Jr.
