Isaiah Bowman was a farmer from Edinburg, His parents were Isaiah Bowman Bowman and Elizabeth (Painter) Bowman.

His first wife was Annie Elizabeth (Fravel) (1845-1903) Bowman.

He served during the Civil War as a Confederate soldier in the 10th Virginia Infantry and the 7th Virginia Cavalry.
