Houston was born in Woodstock to Edgar Douglas (1854-1927) and Mary Ott (Walton) (1855-1942) Newman.
His wife was Edna Flavelle Jones and they married in 1914.
When he registered for the WWI draft, Houston was already married and had three children. He was the manager of Wienn Produce Company in Edinburg.
In his life, he also served as the Sunday School Superintendent and worked as a banker.

Identified in 2010 by Nancye L. Bowman as Edgar Newman, Jr. She remembered he lived in Edinburg and recognized him from church and from seeing him in the community.
After comparing this image to others of both Edgar and Houston Newman, we believe this is a photograph of Houston.
