Joan Biggs and her family lived near Fairview west of Woodstock. Her most passionate hobby was creating rubbings of medieval brass figures, traveling to Europe to learn the craft and to visit sculptures in England.
While living in Shenandoah County, Joan was active with the Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she helped provide transportation services for patients, and was a disaster volunteer with the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
