Description

Wedding photograph of Mark Roller and his bride, Elizabeth Owens, probably taken at the time of their marriage in 1930.

Mark was the son of John Samuel and Fannie H. (Zigler) Roller. Most records state he was born in Rockingham County although the family bible noted his exact place of birth as “3 miles south of New Market”.

When he registered for the WWI draft in 1918, Mark lived in Timberville and farmed with his father.

He married Elizabeth Owens in 1930. She was born in Lyon County, Minnesota, to Robert R. (1854-1926) and Anna Effie (Thomas) (1872-1947) Owens.

Mark and Elizabeth spent much of their married lives in Toms Brook where Mark was the Principal of Toms Brook School in the 1930s and 1940s. Later, the 1950 census recorded he was the Principal of a County High School. They had two sons, Robert S. and Richard W. Roller.
