Lodema was born in Edinburg, the daughter of Oscar Melvin (1887-1945) and his second wife, Lucy May (Gochenour) (1893-1992) Gochenour. Lodema was one of eleven children.
Lodema worked as a retail clerk in a store when she married in 1953. Her husband was Cletus Rodney Lindamood, Jr. (1928-2020), a farmer, army veteran, and 1947 graduate of Triplett High School. Cletus was born in Mt. Jackson to Cletus Rodney (1903-1979) and Bertha Ellen (Collins) (1903-1984) Lindamood.
Over their years together, the couple raised two daughters: Carolyn Ann and Lodema Beth. They lived in Edinburg. Cletus worked at Bowman Brothers, the Edinburg Mill, and retired from VDOT Toms Brook Headquarters in 1993.
