Description

Photograph of three Mantz siblings posed together as young children. Identified (l to r) are: Katherine “Kitty”, Fred Jr. and Doris Mantz.

They were the three oldest of the five children born to Fred Ashby (1911-1970) and Estaline (Funk) (1909-1997) Mantz. The children grew up in Woodstock. Twins, Donnie and Bonnie, were born after this photograph was made.

About Katherine “Kitty” (Mantz) Jones:
Kitty Mantz married Dale Jones of Detroit, Michigan. In the early years of their marriage, the couple lived in Hyattsville, Maryland. At the end of her life, Kitty lived in Crofton, Maryland. She left behind three sons.

About Fred Ashby Mantz, Jr.:
Fred graduated from Woodstock High School in 1954 and enlisted in the Army soon after. He finished basic training at Camp Gordon, Georgia, and spent 2-1/2 years in Japan with the Signal Corps. He was discharged in 1957 and worked for Western Union in Washington, D.C.

He married Lois Mae See (1937-2022) in November 1959, in Switzerland, before moving to Africa where Lois worked for the Foreign Service. Later, they returned to the United States and lived in Fredericksburg, Virginia, for many years. The couple had two sons together.

About Doris Jean (Mantz) Crum:
Doris Mantz married Joseph E. Crum (1932-2014) in 1952. He was from Ohio. The couple had four sons and two daughters together. Doris and her family lived in Florida for years when the children were young. Northern Virginia newspaper articles from the early 1960s mentioned them each time they came back to Woodstock for a visit with relatives.

Later in her life, Doris lived in Van West County, Ohio.
