Description

Calvin Saum Wisman as a small child seated on a bench.

Originally from Shenandoah County, he was the son of Walter Calvin and Irene (Saum) Wisman.

After graduating from Woodstock High School in 1936, he received his college degree in agricultural education from Virginia Tech, class of 1940.

In June of 1940, he volunteered for active duty in the U.S. Army and served until retirement in April of 1964. Some of his principal assignments were Provost Marshal, 70th Infantry Division (WWII), Commanding Officer, 793rd Military Police Batallion and Provost Marshal, 1st Infantry Division. He retired as a Colonel.

Following Army retirement, he was employed for 15 years in civil service, working the last 10 years as Security Manager at Fort Monroe.

He married Anne Elizabeth (Slater) Wisman in 1952. The couple lived in the Richmond area for much of their lives together.

The name, "Wisman", is written on the glass plate.

Identified in 2009 by P.M. Fravel, a second cousin of the subject who had the same photograph at home.
Biographical information was extracted from subject's obituary published in the Richmond Times Dispatch newspaper on 15 March 2008 and posted to his Find-A-Grave record.
