Federal Court rules Sexual Orientation
Discrimination violates Civil Rights Act
The Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit ruled in February that the
1964 Civil Rights Act bans workplace discrimination based on sexual
orientation. The decision contrasts with the Trump administration,
which argued against a gay employee. The Court ruled, “We now
hold that sexual orientation discrimination constitutes a form of discrimination ‘because of . . . sex,’ in violation of Title VII,” overturning a lower court ruling. The decision could have nation-wide impact.
The Supreme Court is the remaining appellate court.

SVE’s Friday Potluck
Every month, usually on either the First or Second Friday, SVE organizes a

Because the event is usually held in private homes or on private property, we
email location information to SVE members ONLY and do not publicly share
or post it through social media. To receive emails about the potluck and other
local events, join as a non-voting member (for FREE) or as a voting member
(for $15). See page 13 for membership information and pages 10-11 for

SVE’s Friday Potluck
Every month, usually on either the First or Second Friday, SVE organizes a
potluck in the Valley (usually in Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Staunton, or Augusta County) for the LGBTQA+ community. The event rotates to
a different location each month and is scheduled to accommodate the volunteer host’s preference). Please bring a dish to share. No RSVP needed.
Because the event is usually held in private homes or on private property, we
email location information to SVE members ONLY and do not publicly share
or post it through social media. To receive emails about the potluck and other
local events, join as a non-voting member (for FREE) or as a voting member
(for $15). See page 13 for membership information and pages 10-11 for
events schedule.
We need potluck hosts for September and October.
Please let us know if you can host on the
1st or 2nd Friday of either month.
