John A. Myers (1896-1969) worked on his father’s farm in Maurertown VA when he volunteered for the National Guard in June 1917. Part of the 29th Infantry Division, he went to France in June of 1918 and entered combat on July 16 1918. Serving in the Meuse-Argonne sector, Myers was wounded and gassed on October 8 1918. Discharged in February of 1919, he returned to his father’s farm. In 1920 he wrote his overseas experience left him “physically much worse.”
