Ruby was born in Conicville, one of six children born to Mantonia Dellinger and Gertie (Mumaw) Dellinger.

She graduated from Triplett High School in Mt. Jackson in 1941 and Palmer's Business College in Woodstock in 1943.

She worked at American Viscose Plant in Front Royal, Woodstock Coat Manufacturing, Bowman Apple Products for 20 years and retired from Woodstock Aileen Inc. after 22 years in 1995.

Ruby was a dedicated and faithful member of Christ U.C.C. in Conicville. She was also a member of the 4-H, Edinburg VFW, and Conicville Home Demonstration Club.

Ruby’s husband was Robert D. Hawkins Sr. (1925-1973), also from Shenandoah County. His parents were Frederick A. “Fred” (1886-1931) and Florence Alice (Fadeley) (1901-1984) Hawkins.

Together, Ruby and her husband raised a family. Their children were: Robert D. Hawkins Jr., Brenda H. (Hawkins) Hiner, and Donald E. Dellinger.
