John C. Ryman, pictured as a young man and wearing a suit and tie.

John was a lifelong Woodstock area farmer and member of Valley Pike Church of the Brethren. His parents were Edward Andrew (1891-1978) and Sudie Frances (Hoffman) (1891-1965) Ryman.

John registered for the WWII draft at the town hall in Woodstock where he reported that he was single and lived on his family’s farm. At that time, he was described as being 5’8” tall and 140 pounds.

He married in August 1951, when he was in his early thirties. His bride was Dorothy Elizabeth Coleman, born in Summit Point, West Virginia. She was the 19-year old daughter of Daniel Alexander and Nellie Catherine (Bauserman) Coleman. When she married, she lived in Woodstock.

The couple spent 52 years together and had a daughter, Shirley (Ryman) French.
