Clarence H. Larkin is wearing a suit and hat and seated beside his wife, Susie (Clem) Larkin who is standing and wearing a hat, and fur stole.

Clarence Hottle Larkin was born in Columbia Furnace to Green Berry Larkin and Rebecca Frances (Hottle) Larkin. His death certificate noted he and his wife lived in Columbia Furace where he was a postmaster.

His wife, Susie, was born in Fort Valley to John Adam Grove and Essie Susan (Henry) Clem. She was a teacher who worked for 32 years in the school systems of Page and Shenandoah counties. She taught at Powells Fort Valley, Page County and Columbia Furnace elementary schools. Susie (Clem) Larkin was a Bridgewater College graduate and a member of the Columbia Furnace Church of the Brethren.

The plate glass negative of this image was stored in a box labeled "June 1933".

Contributor

Identified in 2010 by Linda L. Varney who was a friend of Susie (Clem) Larkin and had the same photograph at home.
The original identification specified the man in the photograph was "Walter" Larkin, however, after researching, we believe the man pictured was his half brother, Clarence.
