Court Square
This photograph shows a crowd gathering at Court Square in Woodstock. The presence of the automobiles and lack of horses indicates it was taken sometime around 1920.
Most likely these individuals were visiting to participate in Court Days, when most business was completed. Shops would be packed with individuals, hotels would be full, entertainment venues were in full swing, and community organizations held most of their events. These families came here for a variety of reasons. Many came to complete legal business, others because it was the best time to shop, a few wanted to watch court cases in action, and some were there simple for the social scene.
