Letter:

Dear Mother & All,
Well it’s all over and I’m still kicking, I didn’t even get a scratch. God was surely with some of us this trip. It was the worse I have been through yet. I hope you all didn’t worry too much about me. I worried a lot about you. Things were plenty hot on Iwo but there are a lot of good Japs there now. You can tell the League Chimes I received two copies while there.
I have to hurry to get this in so it’s just a note to let you know I’m safe. Please write Dot for me. I’ll write you all later.
Love to all,
Joe
