Biographical Text

Irene Rickard became an English teacher at Strasburg High School after graduating from what is now James Madison University. Her classes published the award winning student newspaper “Ram Page.”

Outside school she dreamed of a “career either in drama or voice.” Irene sang with local radio groups, read poetry and drama on WINC, and wrote several plays. She also played tennis, fished, raised flowers, and camped with her husband Truman.
