Beedle, Nathaniel (1874-1954)
Description
Nathaniel Beedle's portrait as a young man.
Nathaniel was the son of Noah F. (1847-1927) and Margaret (Basye) (1846-1930) Beedle. In the 1900 census, he was still single and worked on his parents’ farm in the Ashby District of the County. Three younger siblings lived there, too. When Nathaniel registered for the WWI draft, he described himself as a farmer in Mt. Jackson.
Nathaniel was in his forties and owned his farm when he married a much younger woman, Mary Rosan Barb (1898-1985) in Woodstock in 1919. She was the daughter of James Isaac and Hannah Elizabeth (Spitler) Barb.
Subsequent censuses found the family still in the Ashby District near Crooked Run Road. The couple had several children including: Arthur, Hannah M., Norman, Ruby V., Martin L., Stanley and Barbara E. Beedle. Nathaniel’s death record noted his last residence was Bird Haven.
Nathaniel was buried in Hudson Crossroads, a hamlet near where he had lived.
