George was the son of Shirley and American (Johnson) Keyes.
His wife was Rachel E. Keyes. Together they raised four children: Dorothy, Alma B., Lewis S., and Jerome W. Keyes.
George lived most of his life in Fairfax County, Virginia, and was well known throughout that community. He worked for the Southern Railways System for 45 years, retiring in 1945.
For almost all of his years with the Southern Railway company, he had worked as an engineer on the line between Harrisonburg, and Alexandria, Virginia.
He is buried in Franconia, Virginia.
