His parents were Oliver Milton and Florence Virginia (Fogle) Funk.
In 1950, Carroll married Agnes Marie Drummond, daughter of Charles Gilbert and Mary May (Ross) Drummond. He was 20 and she was 19 when they married in Woodstock. He was stationed at the time at Bowling Air Force Base, in Washington, D.C. That marriage ended in divorce in 1976.
Carroll married again in 1980 in Newport News to Catherine Lee Watts Long, daughter of George Allen and Etta Howerton (Clements) Watts.
He died in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.
