Portrait photograph of Dr. Frank Wilson Gearing, Sr., a well-known physician who practiced medicine in Woodstock in the 1950's.
His parents were Marcellus and Mary (Santmiers) Gearing.
Frank Wilson Gearing, Sr. married his first wife, Bertha Whalley in 1917. They had three sons together: Frank Gearing Jr., Edward Marcellous Gearing, and John Kingdon Gearing.
Bertha died in 1966 and Dr. Gearing married again in 1971, to Jessie Smoot.

Identified in 2006 by JoAnne Lockhart who noted that at that time, the subject's grandson, F.W. Gearing, III, M.D., had his practice on Medical Avenue in Harrisonburg.
