He was the son of Mertie and Maude (Clem) McClanahan from Fort Valley.
He served in Europe during World War II. While there, he served under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge and landed at Normandy.
After the war, he married Mildred (Dovel) McClanahan and raised two sons.
David retired from the U.S. Government after working for the Department of Defense for many years.
He is buried in Carmel, Fort Valley.
