He was the son of Charles Phillip and Willie Rebecca (Yates) Ralph.
In 1946, he married Naomi Grace Zeigler, from Maurertown and the daughter of Wilson I. and Virginia (Rinker) Zeigler.
They lived for a time in Fairfax, raised two daughters, and spent 42 years together before Walter died.
Both he and his wife are buried together in Walters Cemetery located in Carmel, Shenandoah County.
