Photograph of a U.S. Army Honorable Discharge Certificate awarded to Master Sergeant Stanley D. Showman from Company B of the 110th Infantry Regiment in the 28th Division.
He received this certificate in the convalescent hospital in Ft. Story, Virginia, on November 23, 1945. Ft. Story is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Born in Mount Jackson, Stanley was the son of Charles Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Showman.
His wife was Eleanor (Ritenour) Showman, whom he married July 10, 1946, not long after his Army discharge.
Stanley served in the Army in World War II in France and Germany. He was a parachutist and platoon leader. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and spent 3 months in a prison camp in Germany. He ended his tour of duty as master sergeant. For his service, he earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, Occupational Medal-Army, Prisoner of War Medal, American Campaign Medal, Victory Medal WW II, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Marksman Badge, Sharpshooter Badge.
After the war, he was an auto mechanic and auto parts manager for Mason Motor Sales and retired in 1986.
He is buried in Mount Jackson.
