Photograph of Henry Clay Ellis of Strasburg standing beside a gate. He was the son of William Henry Clay Ellis and Bess Ellen (Machir) Ellis.
As a young man, Henry worked as a bank teller in Washington D. C. There, he met and fell in love with Billie Shannon, born in Clinton, Arkansas, and the daughter of William and Minnie (Williams) Shannon. They married on May 25, 1941, in Strasburg.
Henry died in Fairfax, Virginia, in 1990. By then, he was a banking executive for the Bank of Southern Maryland.
His funeral arrangements were handled by Stover's in Strasburg, although he was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Identified by Graham Conner who lived across the street from the subject and remembered that his father was a Grand Wizard of the Klu Klux Klan. Mr. Conner also remembered seeing a KKK parade in Strasburg in 1928.
