PFC. Ralph was killed in action in the Pacific Theater He died as a result of a direct bomb hit on his machine gun emplacement. It took place during the hours of darkness when his position was bombed by Japanese bombers.

He received a Purple Heart for his heroism. He was 18 years old.

Harold was initially interred in the Gilbert Islands and then reinterred in National Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii. It is uncertain which location this grave pictures.
