Description
View of Cedar Creek at Painters (Panther) Cove near Strasburg. This is a remote area and best accessed by canoe or kayak. The name, "Painters" is a corruption of "Panthers" as panthers formerly frequented the cavities. The word, "Panthers", is still pronounced, "Painters" in some areas.
During the Civil War, Sheridan's troops occupied the bluff above the caves for a time before the Battle of Cedar Creek.
