Ernest was from Edinburg and married Erva Lorraine (Peer) Wisman (1896-1987) in 1924.

During his life, he worked as an insurance salesman, teacher, and, during prohibition, as a Federal agent with the Department of the Treasury.

He had two sons, Douglas Peer and William Robert Wisman.
