Subject

Soldiers - United States - Virginia - Shenandoah County
Edmonson, William Harrison "Harry" (1896-1993)

Description

The name “Harry Edmunson” is written on the glass plate of this image of a young man standing in his U.S. Army uniform from the WWI era.

Upon further research, it is likely this was a photograph of William Harrison “Harry” Edmonson, born in Woodstock to Charles Henry (1862-1897) and Rebecca "Bettie" Elizabeth (Copp) (1860-1944) Edmonson.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Private during World War I.

He attended Bridgewater College and graduated from Virginia Tech. He taught agriculture at Buckingham and New Hope high schools before moving to Bridgewater in 1932. He was a milk tester and soil conservationist for the Virginia Department of Soil and Conservation in Shenandoah Valley and James River Valley for 20 years, serving as its director for a number of years.

He married Anna Frances Thomas (1896-1982) in 1923. He is survived by two daughters, Gene Elizabeth Edmonson and Eloise Rebecca Edmonson; and one son, William Harrison Edmonson, Jr.
