Portrait photograph of John Strother Calvert in a suit and striped tie.
He was born in New Market to George and Ann (Clinedinst) Calvert. He came from a large family but never married.
Census data place him living in Richmond by 1900-1910. After that, he lived in Philadelphia, then Georgia, for a time.
Eventually, he moved back to New Market and by 1940, he had been renting his home there for at least five years and worked in a bank there.
When he died of pancreatic cancer in 1949, he was buried in Emmanuel Cemetery, New Market.
