Damaged photo of a photograph of Green Berry Samuels.

This is the same image that appears on page 559 of John W. Wayland's book, "A History of Shenandoah County, Virginia".

Born February 1, 1806, Green Berry Samuels was admitted to the bar in 1827 and established a legal practice in Woodstock Virginia. He served in the US Congress from 1839-1841 and a delegate to the Virginia Constitutional in 1850. In 1850 he was appointed Circuit Court Judge for Virginia 14th Circuit and elevated to the Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals in 1859. He died January 5, 1859 and is buried at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Woodstock.
Samuels was married to Maria Gore Coffman on April 12, 1831. They had five children who reached adulthood, Elizabeth, Isaac, Anna, Green Berry Jr., and Samuel.
