Description
Portrait of Marshall Pershing Dellinger as a young man. He was the son of Mantonia (1859-1928) and Gertie Selena (Mumaw) (1889-1981) Dellinger, a farming couple from the Edinburg area of the county.
Marshall served in the United States Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II attaining the rank of Sergeant in the 92nd Bomb Group 'H', flying in the rugged B-17 Flying Fortress, one of the more than 16,000 B-17s produced throughout the war.
Tragically, he was killed over Belgium in March 1945, while on a mission to bomb the oil complex at Ruhland, Germany, and the railroad yard at Chemnitz, Germany.
He was buried in the Christ Reformed Church Cemetery in Conicville.
