Irwin was born in Woodstock, the son of Davenport (1874-1932) and Pearl Rebecca (Hottle) (1885-1959) Keller.
He entered military service during WWII and fought as a Private First Class in the 23rd Infantry of the 2nd Division.
He was killed in Normandy in June 1944 and was buried at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial Park in Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
