John was from Fort Valley, the son of John A.G. and Bessie S. (Henry) Clem. His first wife, Eva Clarice, died in 1925. He married again in 1928, to Sylvia Fisher, a young woman from Toms Brook, eight years his junior.
John was a farmer in Fort Valley for most of his life. He and his wife, Sylvia, had at least three children together: Rosalie V., Donald E. and Warren D.
