He was born in Luray to William R. and Virginia Belle (Henry) Henry.
By the time he registered for the WWI draft, he was married and had three children. The family lived in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and Starless worked as a laborer for the Security Cement & Lime company in Berkeley Station.
The couple had a couple of more children but by the time Starless died, they had divorced.
