Portrait of David Jameson Crawford, originally from Strasburg, as a teenager.
David grew up on West King Street, one of five children born to George Gilbert and Anne Preston (White) Crawford. His father was a well-known doctor and worked out of his home, the present-day Strasburg Community Library.
David attended Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock.
When he registered for the WWII draft, he worked at the American Viscose Plant in Front Royal.
He graduated from the University of Virginia’s School of Commerce and School of Medicine.
In 1951, while in Charlottesville, he married a student from the School of Nursing, Martha Jean (Morrow) Crawford (1930-1981). She was born in Bramwell, West Virginia, to Edward Earle and Martha Elmira (Wright) Morrow.
David began his medical career in Waynesboro in 1957 and continued to practice medicine there until he retired in 1998. He and his wife raised two sons, Edwin M. Crawford and David J. Crawford, III.
He and his wife were actively involved in the Augusta County community.
