Marvin was born in Mount Olive, the son of Franklin (1872-1950) and Anna Elizabeth (Hottle) (1863-1961) Shillingburg. He was a lifelong farmer in the Toms Brook area.
He married Mabel Helen (Peer) (1912-1981) Shillingburg in April 1940. She was from Maurertown, the daughter of David H. and Minnie (Myers) Peer.
In the 1950 census, the couple appeared with two children, 7-year old Ronald L. and 1-year old Peggy A. Shillingburg. Marvin was still farming.
Later in his life, Marvin also worked as an attendant at a gas station.
