Lloyd was born and grew up in Woodstock, one of at least nine children born to John and Mary (Funkhouser) Wetzel.
He worked as a manager at Woodstock Manufacturing where he retired. He was a member of The Woodstock United Methodist Church.
His wife was Phyllis (Bradfield) Wetzel.
Together, they raised three children: Doris Wetzel, Sharon (Wetzel) Marston and Lloyd Wetzel Jr.
