Description
Photographic postcard bearing the caption “Shenandoah River from Bridge, Woodstock, Va.” The scene is located east of Woodstock along Woodstock Tower Road near what is popularly called “Burnshire’s.”
The photograph shows a dam constructed in 1901 by J.I. Triplett to provide hydraulic power to the Town of Woodstock. The dam would be dynamited in 1910 following a major flood. It would be replaced by a concrete structure that still stands today.
