I was a camper there 1957-1962, counselor and staff member 1963-1969. Camp name was Hoppy. My younger brother, Billy, was a canmper as well. I know he was there in 1966, but not sure what years he was there. Can you provide that information? Did he win the "Best Camp Spirit" award? My older brother, D'Arcy, was a camper from 1957-1959 and a counselor and staff member from 1960-1967. Both D'Arcy and I won the award and we are trying to find out if Billy did. Thank you.

During the fifties and most of the sixties my family and I lived in Woodstock. My father was Assistant Commandant at Massanutten Military Academy and at Camp Lupton in the summers. Yes, it was all boys but sometimes Dad took me along to help with a few office things. I cherish those days. It is so beautiful there in the Valley. We spent a lot of time fishing around Lupton Bridge; wading and swimming and enjoying the clear, cool water of the Shenandoah river. Now the banks and trails where my siblings and I used to play, drink from natural springs and pick Virginia Bluebells  all belong to the National Park Service. Even though the freedom is gone, it's a consolation to know it's being protected.
