Elmer served in the United States Army during World War II. He then worked as an engineer in the temperature department at Avtex in Front Royal retiring in 1980.
He is most remembered as being a master sawyer and operating the sawmill west of Columbia Furnace in Johnstown for many years.
His wife was Hilda (Barb) Markley.
The name, "Elmer Markley", is written on the glass plate.
