He served in Richmond, Virginia, Bainbridge, Maryland, the Industrial Command Repair Base in San Diego, California, and at Camp Elliott, also in San Diego.
He was qualified as a Metalsmith Second Class and was also an Apprentice Seaman.
Joseph was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on January 11, 1909. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1944, in Richmond.
He was given a travel allowance to get him from Camp Elliott, California, to Woodstock, Virginia.
